Many Catholics, I should say Roman Catholics, must be disheartened and bewildered by all the bad publicity about their church.

A sensitive and empathetic Christian believer may find opportunity to guide such folks to the truth.

The New Testament shows that there are ONLY two offices in true churches, Elder (or overseer or bishop) and Deacon.

The New Testament has lists of qualifications for each of these.

I include these lists below.

NOTICE THAT BEING "HUSBAND OF ONE WIFE" IS AT LEAST ADVISED, IF NOT OUTRIGHT REQUIRED. THIS IS TRUE IN BOTH LIST OF THE TWO OFFICES IN THE NEW TESTAMENT.

NOTE ALSO - There is NO office, nor any list of qualifications for Priest, because there is NO SUCH THING as OFFICE of Priest in the New Testament Church.

ALL true believers are INDWELLED by THE LORD JESUS CHRIST through the HOLY SPIRIT and ARE the ONLY TRUE PRIESTS ON EARTH AT THIS TIME.

1 John 5:11,12 makes it succinctly clear that Jesus Christ MUST indwell a person to make him or her a genuine Christian believer:

¹¹And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

¹²He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

Revelation 1 makes it clear believers ARE priest:

1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

²Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

³Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

⁴John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;

Titus 1: (Qualifications of an Elder:

⁵For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

⁶If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

⁷For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

⁸But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;

⁹Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

1 Timothy 3: (list of qualifications for Overseer (called Bishop here) and Deacon:

1 This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

²A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

³Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

⁴One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

⁵(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

⁶Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

⁷Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

⁸Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

⁹Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

¹⁰And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.

¹¹Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

¹²Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

¹³For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

¹⁴These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly:

¹⁵But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
